Customer Review: Endless diet of vulgarity masquerading as advice
I am saddened that I can’t rate this any lower than one-star and deeply disappointed that this book made any best-seller list. I purchased it on a fly-by past the bookstand, and returned it the very next day. It is obvious that these two former “models” have no concept whatsoever of the true issues related to excess weight, nor how their repetitive references to the reader as a “fat pig” feed into the root cause of many people’s weight problems. They offer no assistance to people to address the underlying issues behind their weight, instead assume that people are just stupid and lazy and by simply adopting a vegan lifestyle, their weight problems will go away. This book presents a stunningly shallow approach to weight-related issues and the presentation is such a disgusting, coarse and gratuitously vulgar dissertation that I could barely stomach it. I don’t have a problem with cursing but this book takes “potty-mouth” to a whole new level. These two should have their mouths washed out with soap…a cruelty-free, organic, soy-based soap…but soap all the same.
Customer Review: don’t bother
this book is mind-numbingly stupid. i bought this on a day when i was feeling guilty about my completely undisciplined approach to food. despite being a relatively “skinny bitch” myself, i got suckered into this book by it’s cover and tag lines. the authors’ pathetic attempt to engage youthful and savvy women with sarcasm and tough love is really just gimmicky bad writing. this book pretends to offer a cut and dry motivational approach to food, but it’s just a sneaky way to proselytize their extreme veganism and paranoia. most of their “science” is either conjecture or completely wrong. what they think is logically and scientifically best for our bodies is really their own personal philosophy on how humans and animals should coexist. it truly saddens me that this book is on any bestseller list.

Customer Review: You can’t help but relax…
…to this great CD! I recommend it to those who are seeking introspection and quiet moments. Peter Davison combines in his work a number of ethnic influnces and although we all know that this genre has been around for some time, he makes the sounds feel fresh and unique.
Customer Review: Relaxation at it’s best!
Don’t listen to this CD if you don’t want to relax, because relax is what you do when you listen to this CD! At first I didn’t think I’d relax, but then the tones of the human voice started and it filled me with such an energy, that it was impossible not to relax! The gentle ocean waves in the background… the tibetian bells… the flutes… the voice… it’s all-incompasing! Takes all your senses and delights them into relaxation. I highly recommend this CD if relaxation is what you have in mind!

According to most relationship books, the key to a solid marriage is communication, communication, communication. Phooey, says John Gottman, Ph.D., author of the much-lauded Why Marriages Succeed or Fail. There’s much more to a solid, “emotionally intelligent” marriage than sharing every feeling and thought, he points out–though most couples therapists ineffectively (and expensively) harp on these concepts.
Gottman, the director of the Gottman Institute, has found through studying hundreds of couples in his “love lab” that it only takes five minutes for him to predict–with 91 percent accuracy–which couples will eventually divorce. He shares the four not-so-obvious signs of a troubled relationship that he looks for, using sometimes amusing passages from his sessions with married couples. (One standout is Rory, the pediatrician who didn’t know the name of the family dog because he spent so much time at work.)
Gottman debunks many myths about divorce (primary among them that affairs are at the root of most splits). He also reveals surprising facts about couples who stay together. They do engage in screaming matches. And they certainly don’t resolve every problem. “Take Allan and Betty,” he writes. “When Allan gets annoyed at Betty, he turns on ESPN. When Betty is upset with him, she heads for the mall. Then they regroup and go on as if nothing’s happened. Never in forty-five years of marriage have they sat down to have a ‘dialogue’ about their relationship.” While this may sound like a couple in trouble, Gottman found that they pass the love-lab tests and say honestly that “they are both very satisfied with their relationship and they love each other deeply.”
Through a series of in-depth quizzes, checklists, and exercises, similar to the ones he uses in his workshops, Gottman provides the framework for coping with differences and strengthening your marriage. His profiles of troubled couples rescued from the brink of divorce (including that of Rory, the out-of-touch doctor) and those of still-happy couples who reinvigorate their relationships are equally enlightening. –Erica Jorgensen

Customer Review: A breakthrough book that saved our marriage!
We have been married for 14 years and recently my wife and I faced a lot of challenges that threatened to break our relationship. I still love her very much and immediately looked for a down-to-earth, doable and working approaching to solving our conflicts. It was a great relieve to find this book and thanks to it we realized a lot of things. There were personal aspects we had to accept that will not go away. I think that one of the most valuable benefits from this book is that it shows you what is irresolvable and what CAN be solved. The book is based on years of rigorous scientific research so you know for sure what really matters in a marriage and what doesn't. In this way we were able to focus on the resolvable and really important aspects of our relationships. Dr. Gottman has outlined 4 marital killers and 7 principles of a strong and happy marriage. There are questionnaires that helped us to identify the strong and weak points of our relationship and don't waste time improving what's fine. I can say that after 3 weeks the chances are that we will overcome this crisis and have stronger and happier marriage in the coming years thanks to this excellent book. One of the aspects that it helped us to identify as very important is the periods of intimacy and the satisfaction from them. That's why an also breakthrough book which helped us incredibly a lot in this direction was “Scientifically guaranteed male multiple orgasms and ultimate sex” by Alan Ritz. We highly recommend both books as the very best in their areas!

Customer Review: Blah
I am a fan of Rodney Yee’s AM Yoga for Beginners and thought that this would be just as well-turned out as that one. I also thought it would be a fun video to do yoga with my 3 year old to. How wrong I was. The program showcases the Yee Family - Rodney, Donna Fone, and their 3 children. After a very brief introduction, the family jumps right into the sun salutation poses and does no less than 5 different ones. Do we really need to do 5 different sun salutations? In a video that you do alongside kids? Talk about overkill. This was supposed to be fun! Then they go through a series of different poses, each one presented by a different member of the family with the occasional variation thrown in. My 3 year old lost interest after the 2nd sun salutation pose and left the room. I’m not saying that this video has to appeal only to preschoolers, but it doesn’t even appeal to me! While there seems to be some sort of progression to the routine, it’s not very clear-cut and the video is almost too casual making the choice of poses seem more like an afterthought. While the credits are running at the end, there’s a fun behind the scenes outtake featuring mostly Adesha, the middle child, and you can see that they at least ran through a tiny bit of the routine with the kids, but it doesn’t seem like there was much preparation at all. There are a couple of fun poses, though - the one where your child or partner lies on your back as you do child’s pose and another one where you lift up into a bridge pose of sorts (sorry, not that up on all the names of poses) and your child can crawl under you. Also, Rodney and Donna show how you can help the kids out a bit with some of the poses, but they’re too casual about it! I found this frustrating - I want a little more direction! I want structure!
I was expecting this to be similar to his AM Yoga for Beginners video where Rodney talks you through the poses. All in all, this was very disappointing. I think even if my expectations weren’t so high, I’d still find this difficult to do with my child(ren) - the one I did it with was bored (she LOVES Yoga Kids)! Save your money!

Inheriting the mantle of revolutionary biologist from Darwin, Watson, and Crick, Richard Dawkins forced an enormous change in the way we see ourselves and the world with the publication of The Selfish Gene. Suppose, instead of thinking about organisms using genes to reproduce themselves, as we had since Mendel’s work was rediscovered, we turn it around and imagine that “our” genes build and maintain us in order to make more genes. That simple reversal seems to answer many puzzlers which had stumped scientists for years, and we haven’t thought of evolution in the same way since.
Why are there miles and miles of “unused” DNA within each of our bodies? Why should a bee give up its own chance to reproduce to help raise her sisters and brothers? With a prophet’s clarity, Dawkins told us the answers from the perspective of molecules competing for limited space and resources to produce more of their own kind. Drawing fascinating examples from every field of biology, he paved the way for a serious re-evaluation of evolution. He also introduced the concept of self-reproducing ideas, or memes, which (seemingly) use humans exclusively for their propagation. If we are puppets, he says, at least we can try to understand our strings. –Rob Lightner

Customer Review: The Classic Book on Evolution
Richard Dawkins is an evolutionary theorist and holds the Charles Simonyi Chair in the Public Understanding of Science at Oxford University. He is also a best seller author of science books, and quite easy to read. His most recent book is The God Delusion, but previously he wrote mainly about evolution. For example, his prior book is The Ancestors’ Tale, a brief history of life on earth. The Selfish Gene is explains the basics of evolution in simple and readable language. There is a good reason why this book has a 30th Anniversary edition: it is truly a classic, and will be read for many, many years to come.
Customer Review: Essential
Reading this book today, one can easily forget how revolutionary it was. Many of the new, controversial ideas inside are now accepted scientific dogma; memes now have their own entire field of study. Enlightening and exciting for both the layperson and expert, if you haven’t read it yet, you’re missing out!
