The Wisdom of Menopause: Creating Physical and Emotional Health and Healing During the Change
Menopause doesn’t have to be a dreaded curse of aging during which we can look forward only to hot flashes and whacked-out hormonal mood swings. According to Christiane Northrup, M.D. (Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom), menopause often marks the beginning of a woman’s most sexually passionate, creatively inspired, and professionally productive phase of life.
While this may sound like wishful thinking, Northrup backs up her good news with solid medical expertise. As an obstetrician and gynecologist, Northrup has specialized in using a mind-body approach to women’s health for decades, which means she doesn’t just write about hormones, but also examines how a woman’s lifestyle, emotions, and beliefs are affected by menopause. With the right diet, attitude, and perhaps some supplements along the way, women can actually look forward to a resurgence of energy and a revolutionary opportunity for personal growth–one that rivals the hormonally driven period of adolescence in its scope and urgency, she claims. And yes, at just under 500 pages, The Wisdom of Menopause does explain how to have a positive and healthy menopause in concise detail. Northrup has indeed “written the book” on menopause.
It helps that Northrup has been through menopause herself (she vowed she wouldn’t write a book on it until she was on the other side). Readers have the sense that they are gleaning advice from a knowledgeable holistic doctor as well as a sage aunt whose life was radically altered by the “change of life” (Northrup divorced at the onset of menopause). After she shares her personal story of “the change,” Northrup delves into a significant discussion on how self-sacrifice catches up with women in midlife. Suddenly, hormones are directing women out of the caregiver role and into an inwardly focused assessment of life and its meaning, she explains. Resentments (not hormones) are what spur the notorious surges of anger, as women reexamine the agreements surrounding their relationships with colleagues, friends, and family members.
From here, Northrup guides readers into a thorough section on menopausal hormone changes–a discussion that is scientifically informative, yet entirely accessible. While acknowledging the need for hormone-replacement therapy and the tremendous relief it can provide (helping to alleviate insomnia, hot flashes, and depression), Northrup encourages women to avoid synthetic hormones and instead consider “bioidentical” hormones (such as estradiol, estrone, and estriol). She also devotes an entire chapter to foods and supplements that support hormonal balance. By the way, she says to skip the wild Mexican yam creams: “they certainly don’t provide the documented benefits of progesterone.” Be warned: some readers may find the advice in Wisdom of Menopause too alternative for their liking. For example, in her discussion on insomnia, one of Northrup’s recommendations is to cover the mirror at night, following the ancient Asian design principles of feng shui. (Skeptics will find Northrup’s medical assertions carefully cited and footnoted in the rear of her book.)
Northrup gives a solid and practical diet plan that supports hormonal balance while countering the weight gain that so frequently plagues menopausal women (”focus on portion size, not calories,” “eat protein at every meal,” and cut down on refined and high-carbohydrate foods). Readers can also expect a thorough mind-body discussion in subsequent chapters that cover breast health, bone loss, and cultivating midlife beauty, along with chapters titled “Sex and Menopause: Myths and Reality” and “Creating Pelvic Health and Power.”
She concludes with a list of mail-order and online resources, such as retailers for bioidentical hormones, progesterone cream, Chinese herbs, soy products, weight-loss audiocassettes, lubricants, and Kegel weights. Northrup takes a truly comprehensive approach to all the effective treatments of menopausal symptoms so that women can make their own highly informed and wise choices. –Gail Hudson

Customer Review: 2 Extraordinary Books for Mid-Lifers
I have been educating myself about menopause since I hit 40. This book covers everything I discovered plus gives a spiritual side that medical literature never covers. It is full of excellent practical advice. Dr. Northrup combines traditional medicine with other “medicines” in a nice balance. “THE WISDOM OF MENOPAUSE” and “Understanding: Train of Thought” are life changing books. I can’t recommend them too highly!

Customer Review: some good ideas
I thought this book was very practical and had some usefull ideas. My 10 month old is still not sleeping through the night but I think she is improving. The thing I did not like was the fact that some of her ideas did not work for us and it doesn’t have any advice if they dont work except to keep trying them. Overall a good book and would recommend it to others.
Customer Review: Excellent, long-term results
I first used the ideas from this book with my daughter, who has special needs. The moment I picked up the book, it made so much sense to me–to change a habit carefully, step by step, rather than trying to quit what we’d been doing since birth “cold turkey.” It took several months of patient work, but it was worth it. Every book I read tells me that children with her needs generally sleep poorly, but my daughter sleeps all night, every night. She is well-rested and that makes her better able to face her challenges and learn and grow. Since my son was born I haven’t worried about his sleep because I knew I could count on this book–and indeed, he is also learning how to sleep well. With patience, this book provides excellent long-term results and many peaceful nights.

Customer Review: Accelerate your game with the master
The digital era of Casanova wannabes spawned one Erik von Markovik into fame as the illustrious Mystery, the teacher and leader of the lady killers. A dating consultant who holds high dollar seminars and real time practice in the field, Mystery has written what is revered in the online community as the seduction bible. It contains explicit descriptions of his techniques, jargon, lines, approaches, and everything under the sun to attract and pick up women. The result of mastering the skills is creating instant physical and emotional attraction in the all-important first 30 minutes of social interaction with a new target. (babe). He then walks you through the steps all the way to the close. Whether your pursuit of women is your destiny, or a part-time sport, this is a college course you must take. If you look above, Amazon recommends maybe ten books in this genre. I recommend picking up the best three. Along with this one, make sure you get The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists. This is a fascinating journey by an author with marginal skills with the ladies (despite fame), who sets out on a life changing mission to master picking up women using the Mystery Method. The characters are philanderers, gigolos, wannabes, braggarts, and every dysfunctional category in between. Their quest is obvious, and thrust in your face; to sleep with as many beautiful women as possible. The author Strauss has written several best sellers, as well as for Rolling Stone, and literally has no competition when it comes to spinning tales of this type. The other thought provoking mind bender that catapults your hooking up skills is The Professional Bachelor Dating Guide - How to Exploit Her Inner Psycho. This is a devious sexual persuasion guide for hooking up, written by a psych doc who cruised the nightclubs with great success for decades. It also contains an asset protection guide to set up pre-marriage to shield you from divorce. Get these three, and get ready to laugh and learn. Really interesting books.
Customer Review: Get The Honeys!
Very good book, very good tips. I especially like that the book covers getting a girl away from her boyfriend. Hey, sometimes it just has to be done! A little dry, like one of those Kinko supplements they made you buy in college for some classes. One thing is for sure, this book will get you the honeys and that’s what matters! (I don’t mean that in a derogatory way; I mean it as a way to compete with the jerks women usually seem to go for.) The two other good books you should read, with practical everyday life examples of use, are GOD IS A WOMAN: DATING DISASTERS and THE GAME.

Q-Link Titanium Health Energy Pendant with SRT3
Made of pure titanium, this beveled-edge triangle has two distinct sides, each making a unique statement. It can be worn by both men and women as a signature piece, dressed up or down, and includes a 24″ oxidized silver chain. The titanium pendant is powered by the next generation SRT 3 technology. Beneficial resonance with your biofield In 1994, the National Institutes of Health in the United States adopted a new term biofield to describe a growing body of research showing a subtle field that permeates and extends beyond the physical body. The biofield is something youve probably already noticed: a vital force that animates our bodies and powers our daily lives. When our biofield is out of balance, were out of balance. Disease, fatigue, and apathy all reflect a compromised biofield. When something improves our biofield, such as the Q-Link, it enhances our sense of well-being. Every day, our biofields are negatively impacted by flickering computer monitors, irate bosses, cell phones, emotional stress, tabloid television, and traffic jams. Q-Link products tune up your biofield through a resonant effect that harmonizes your energy and helps you to navigate smoothly through a stressful world. Think of them like tuning forks that remind your biofield of its optimal functioning state. Worldly stress causes the biofield to become more chaotic and incoherent. The Q-Link reverses this process, ensuring efficiency, harmony, and balance. People who wear a Q-Link report having clearer thinking, increased awareness, calmness, better sleep, enhanced mental focus, stamina, vitality and more. * The Q-Link strengthens your resistance to the effects of stress * Increases energy and enhances mental performance especially under stress * Strengthens immunities to Electromagnetic Fields (EMF) emitted by cell phones, computers, and other electronic devices.
Customer Review: Nothing
I bought this product several years ago from their website. I try and use it but everytime I do it causes me to feel out of it. Maybe it works for some people, but for some reason it causes my thinking to become more foggy than clear???
Customer Review: Q-Link is a keeper
As a computer technician, I do quite a bit of “radiation tanning”; as a result, I used to leave work just exhausted. I purchased this item on a recommendation from a Kevin Trudeau book. After wearing the Q-Link pendant, I am not exhausted at the end of the day. At first, it wasn’t noticible, because it’s always easier to notice negative things than positive things for some reason; however, after I wore it for 2 weeks and then didn’t wear it one day, I noticed the difference very definitely.
One thing I will point out about this pendant is that it did not arrive with the oxidized silver chain as featured in the picture; it came with a black nylon cord. When I contacted Iroams, they responded immediately by sending me a shiny silver chain. While not the oxidized chain advertised, it was a chain that fit the very small opening in the pendant, unlike any chain I could purchase somewhere else. Something to keep in mind if you are wanting the specific chain in the picture and that is described in the details. If not for the incident with the chain inconvenience, I would have rated this product at 5 stars.
